On February 26th, 2013, Nuance released the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12.5 Service Pack, which provided improved usability when operating in Windows 8. With the initial release of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12.0, the application was specifically designed to work with the standard ("typical") interface, called Desktop Mode. Note: This means that certain commands, such as commands to access the former Start menu, will no longer function in Windows 8. Within this new design, these functions are no longer the focus for daily operation. ![]() In addition, the Modern style interface has hidden the traditional "Start Menu" and "My Computer" from the Windows Desktop Mode interface. The first thing displayed in the Windows 8 Modern style interface will be the Start screen, showing different items in a "tile" layout. How does this relate to Dragon NaturallySpeaking? These changes have been included with the full Windows 8 operating system. It is a touch and tile interface that Microsoft initially designed for new tablet and touch-screen devices. Beware of any offers selling Naturally Speaking particularly if you are in the market for the latest iteration which is Dragon Home V15. It is not being marketed by Nuance anymore. The Modern interface was first introduced with the Windows Phone 7 release. Older editions: Dragon Naturally Speaking V13 is the previous edition. ![]() The new design is referred to as the Modern (formerly known as Metro) style user interface. ![]() With this release, the interface of the operating system took on a new "look and feel".
